Approval of Bolsonaro’s Government Stands at Lowest Level Since Inauguration

By Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The approval of president Jair Bolsonaro’s government has once again decreased, and is the worst since the beginning of his term. This is what new Ibope research released on Thursday, June 27th, shows. The survey was commissioned by CNI (National Confederation of Industry).

The survey says that 32 percent of Brazilians rate the government as optimal or good. The study also states that 32 percent of the population said the management was bad or terrible. Another 32 percent said it was “regular” (so-so).

The survey was conducted between June 20th and 26th. Two thousand people were heard in 126 municipalities. The margin of error is two percentage points up or down.

Concerning the last CNI/Ibope survey, published in April, the optimal/good index dropped by three percentage points, within the margin of error: from 35 percent to 32 percent. On the other hand, the bad/terrible score increased by five points: 27 percent to 32 percent.

When comparing all monthly surveys — except for May, when there was no survey — the government’s approval rating in June is the worst of the year.

Assessment of the government/Bolsonaro as optimal/good:

  • Jan/2019: 49%
  • Feb/2019: 39%
  • Mar/2019: 34%
  • Apr/2019: 35%
  • Jun/2019: 32%

As for the president’s ruling style, the disapproval rate rose from 40 to 48 percent, while approval dropped from 51 to 46 percent. Confidence in Bolsonaro has also declined. The percentage of those who trust the Chief Executive decreased from 51 to 46 percent and those who do not, increased from 45 to 51 percent.
