Rio City Hall Announces Social Isolation Measures Through May 15th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday, April 30th, the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Crivella, decided to extend the closure of municipal schools at all levels of education. The city’s education facilities will remain closed until May 15th. Other social isolation measures remain valid to date.

Earlier, Mayor Marcelo Crivella had said that there was no date for quarantine to end in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The measures became effective on Thursday. An extra edition of the Municipal Gazette was published determining new measures to tackle the novel coronavirus.

The measures also keep commerce closed (such as shopping malls and street stores) and ban clusters, such as bathing in the sea, on the beaches and parties.

Restaurants may only operate for over-the-counter pick-up or delivery. Bars also cannot allow consumption of drinks on its premises.

In the city of Rio, the use of masks on the street is mandatory, and only essential services may operate.
