Soros praises Lula and defends “strong international support” for the PT party

In an article published on Thursday 16th, George Soros, mogul and founder of the Open Society, which funds left-wing NGOs worldwide, analyzed the global picture in light of alleged climate change caused by human action and praised President Lula effusively.

In his article “Global Warming, Hot Wars, Closed Societies,” Soros assumes that while “two systems of governance struggle for global domination, human civilization risks collapse due to the inexorable advance of climate change.

He defines the two types of governance as open societies – the name of his organization – and closed ones.

He quoted verbatim India and Turkey as societies that would be in a middle ground and highlighted Brazil, which, under Lula, is moving towards an open society.

“Brazil is on the front line of the conflict between open and closed societies.”

“Many other regional powers can influence the course of history. Brazil stands out. The election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the end of last year was crucial,” he wrote in the article, published on the Project Syndicate website.

This international media organization publishes and distributes articles on global issues.

Soros also mentions the January 8 demonstrations, in which the buildings of the Three Powers headquarters were stormed, and compares them to January 6, 2021, in the United States, when supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed Congress.

“Lula led the coup attempt masterfully and established his authority as president,” praised the tycoon.

Specifically, on climate-related policy, he said that Brazil “is on the front lines of the fight against climate change” and advocated “strong international support” for the Brazilian president.

“Lula must protect the rainforest, promote social justice, and reignite economic growth, all at the same time. He will need strong international support if he fails because there is no path to net zero emissions.”

In the article, Soros also looks at China’s failed zero covid policy, the invasion of Ukraine, and ends by writing about the United States, where “democracy is obviously not doing very well.”

He criticizes the Republicans – the opposition to Democratic President Joe Biden – for trying to bar new resource inputs to Volodymyr Zelensky’s country and virulently attacks Trump, whom he accuses of being undemocratic.

“He feels no commitment to democracy; democracy merely provides him with a stage to perform.”

THE OPEN SOCIETY IN BRAZIL

The Open Society, created in 1984, advocates flags such as drug liberation, disarmament, the legalization of abortion, and the release of prisoners considered “non-violent.”

The organization also funds projects that “promote rights in areas such as the legal recognition of gender fluidity.”

Between 2016 and 2019 alone, George Soros distributed more than US$30 million to Brazilian organizations.

According to a Gazeta do Povo newspaper survey, 118 organizations received resources from the Open Society to act in Brazil between 2016 and 2019.

In 2021 alone, Open Society passed on to Brazilian NGOs the equivalent of R$107.2 million.

Among the Brazilian NGOs that received resources are the following:

the Association of Human Rights in Network, which advocates for mass disenfranchisement;

  • the Fernando Henrique Cardoso Foundation;
  • the Climate and Society Institute;
  • Alana Institute;
  • the National Union of Students;
  • the Marielle Franco Association;
  • the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV);
  • the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji);
  • Quebrando o Tabu page;
  • and the Sou da Paz Institute.
