Wagner Group’s presence in Belarus declines after Prigozhin’s death

The Wagner Group, a private military company, has drawn international attention for its operations. Known for its secrecy, its members’ movements are closely watched.

With Prigozhin’s influence, the group has often aligned with Russian interests. The dynamics between Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia are complex, impacting regional stability.

Thus, the presence or absence of Wagner operatives can be politically significant.

After the death of Prigozhin, the withdrawal of the Wagner Group from Belarus intensified. Members of the Wagner Group left Belarus before Yevgueni Prigozhin’s death.

Their numbers further decreased after his passing. Prigozhin, tied to the Kremlin, reportedly died in a plane crash in Russia on August 23rd.

Andri Demechenko, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Border Service, stated Wagner Group members returned to Russia after relocating to Belarus.

They claim to be on vacation and don’t plan to return.

Ukraine’s Border Service has noted fewer Wagner mercenaries in Belarus since Prigozhin’s death.

Demechenko confirmed the Ukraine-Belarus border situation remains unchanged.
