Opinion: January 8 in Brasilia – a false flag operation by Lulism?

By Lucas Ribeiro

Shortly after the Three Powers headquarters was invaded by demonstrators dressed in green and yellow, the national and international press sentenced that it all happened because of “a bunch of fanatic Bolsonarists” who did not respect democracy.

This narrative was widely used by Lula’s Government to treat the entire opposition as anti-democratic and to position itself as a champion of democracy.

The thesis seemed incontestable and gave extra strength to the new leftist Executive.

However, after broadcasting the images of the internal security cameras of the Planalto Palace made by a CNN report, many doubts and hypotheses about the facts arose.

Last week, CNN showed a video with General Gonçalves Dias, Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI – an agency that combines the security and intelligence of the President of the Republic), facilitating the entry of protesters and vandals.

Lula da Silva trusts General Gonçalves Dias, who was responsible for his security between 2003 and 2009.

Shortly after these images were published, the minister was fired.

The hypothesis of a false flag operation began to gain strength after these images were added to other elements.

Would the PT and its allies have encouraged or facilitated such an action?

Would the actions against the Bolsonarists have the same impact if these demonstrators were kept out of the Three Powers HQ through effective action by the security forces?

Wouldn’t it have been better for the PT if, in the “invasion,” the security forces had controlled the situation?

All these questions have been gaining strength and bringing a new perspective to what happened.

In addition to these images (revealed and hidden), we must remember that Lula’s Government decreed the secrecy of the internal security videos for five years.

Why is there so much interest in secrecy and not in the transparency of the content of the internal cameras of the palaces?

If the Government was attacked by “a horde of fanatic bolsonarists” who invaded the palace, why not show more evidence of the action of these predators?

Is there something to hide?

Is it possible that among the demonstrators and vandals, there is the presence of infiltrators placed there to cause chaos?

Was there an action of an agent provocateur organized or facilitated by people from the Government?

All these questions are legitimate and need answers.

Another important point to be raised in the debate is to understand why the PT Government tried by all means to prevent the installation of the CPMI (Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry).

If the PT was the main victim of the attacks, why didn’t they want a deeper investigation by the Brazilian Congress?

The PT offered positions and economic resources to the deputies who changed their vote.

The President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, made all kinds of maneuvers to avoid the CPMI on January 8.

Pacheco is a trusted ally of the Lula government and has done everything possible to help the Government.

So, in summary, there is now this hypothesis that there was a false flag operation by the Government, either by action or omission and for political gain and to demonize the opponent.

The attempt to hide security footage is very suspicious; the performance of the GSI chief during the invasion, as well as the attempt to prevent the installation of the CPMI.

There is an ongoing situation of doubts and questions that deserve answers.

And finally, even with all the efforts of the Government to prevent the formation of the CPMI “January 8”, it was installed on Wednesday, April 26.

Now 16 deputies and 16 senators will be elected to participate in the investigations.

Brazilians must wait for the truth, regardless of the results and the war of narratives.
