São Paulo health department warns of spotted fever risk and symptoms

The São Paulo Health Department warns individuals who were at the Santa Margarida Farm in Campinas between May 27 and June 11 to seek immediate medical help if they exhibit fever, body pain, headache, or red spots.

This warning comes after three of the 12 spotted fever cases this year were linked to the farm.

Spotted fever is a severe and often fatal disease caused by a bacterium and spread through tick bites.

High-risk regions, aside from the farm, include Piracicaba, Assis, and Sorocaba.

With the star tick’s breeding season upon us, the department underscores the importance of awareness and swift medical attention if symptoms arise.
