Fashion Revolution Week Brazil 2023 will be hosted in the Paraisópolis community, the second-largest favela (slum) in São Paulo.

The event will partner with Sewing Dreams Brazil – a social impact business that trains women as seamstresses for financial independence – and G10 Favelas – a bloc of leaders and entrepreneurs from Brazilian communities.

The week takes place simultaneously in dozens of countries to showcase ideas and manifestations of sustainable fashion.

Sewing Dreams Brazil, a project with G10 Favelas, seeks social, environmental, and affordable solutions in the fashion industry by developing collections with the upcycling concept.

One of the creations, designed and made by women of the initiative, was a collection made from reusing uniforms that would be discarded.

“The business focuses on female entrepreneurship, empowering women to have financial independence, prosper and become whatever they want,” says Suéli Feio, co-founder of G10 Favelas.

G10 is a development bank that brings together several Brazilian favelas to encourage entrepreneurship since these communities usually gather many small entrepreneurs.

In 2017, social worker Suéli Feio and lawyer Maria Nilde founded the program to help women in situations of social vulnerability and victims of domestic violence.

With sewing workshops, these women are trained in entrepreneurship through fashion.

In Brazilian communities, Sewing Dreams Brazil has already trained more than a thousand women who learn to cut and sew and has the support of partners who contribute to female entrepreneurship.

In the fashion field, the project has already contributed to a collection by the Italian luxury brand Gianni Chiarini, whose bags were made by sewists from Paraisópolis, and has already participated in the panel of the Circular Connection Movement of the UN Global Compact Brazil, in the United States.
