President of Peru swears in four new ministers

The President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, swore in today, Sunday, the new ministers of Justice and Human Rights, Education, Labor and Employment Promotion, and Foreign Trade and Tourism, without further details on the reasons for the changes.

The swearing-in of the new ministers of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Alberto Otárola took place at the Government Palace in Lima.

The first change was recorded in the Justice and Human Rights portfolio, where she appointed Daniel Maurate, a law professional with a master’s degree in Public Administration and Management who was also Minister of Labor in the administration of former President Ollanta Humala (2011-2016).

Maurate replaced José Tello precisely on the same day the country managed the arrival in Lima of former President Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006) after being deported from the United States to face accusations in his country for alleged acts of corruption during his government.

In the Ministry of Education, she appointed Magnet Márquez, who had been serving as Vice-Minister of Institutional Management of that portfolio and now occupies the position held by Óscar Becerra, whose administration was marked by controversial statements.

In recent days, for example, she described the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) as an “eyesore”, an affirmation that Otárola had to clarify that it did not reflect the feelings of Boluarte’s government.

In the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion, Antonio Varela, a lawyer with international specialization, took office, replacing Luis Adrianzén.

Finally, in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, which until today was occupied by Luis Helguero, was appointed Juan Mathews, who has extensive experience in international cooperation and was Vice Minister of Mype (micro and small enterprises) Industry.
