High number of undecided voters in Ecuador’s upcoming elections

With the Ecuadorian presidential election scheduled for August 20, a recent Cedatos poll shows that 59.5% of voters are currently undecided.

Conducted from July 14 to 18, the poll involved 1,300 interviews across diverse regions of Ecuador.

It holds a 95% confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

The reported indecision is attributed to a lack of knowledge about the candidates vying for both the presidency and vice-presidency and the parties backing them.

This situation makes predicting the election outcome difficult.

Eight candidates, including one woman and seven men, are participating in the race.

After current leader Guillermo Lasso dissolved the National Assembly and called for early elections, Ecuador will elect a new president.

In addition to the presidential role, 137 assembly members will be elected, and two popular consultations on oil and mining will be conducted.

The poll also revealed that while 37.6% of the surveyed voters were aware of the election date, the majority were not familiar with the candidate names: 63.2% for presidential and 98.6% for vice-presidential contenders.

The elected president will serve until May 2025, the original end of Lasso’s term.
