Chilean students stage second day of protests in Santiago
For the second consecutive day, Chilean high school students held a massive demonstration in different points of Santiago on Thursday, in the framework of the failed constituent process that ended with the referendum.
“Students cut traffic in the Alameda axis, by Mac Iver to the north, prefer alternative routes and circulate with caution,” warned Carabineros de Chile (militarized police) through its Twitter account, attaching videos of the march.
The police published on social networks a series of audiovisual records of students demonstrating in the center of the capital, explaining that this forced the closure of several streets, mainly those around the seat of government, the La Moneda palace.

Carabineros Public Order Control (COP) personnel used tear gas and umbrella launchers to disperse the demonstrators, who later began to move to the Plaza Italia sector, located in the eastern sector of the Alameda, Santiago’s main avenue.
The demonstrations began on Wednesday, September 7, and are part of the failed constituent process that culminated over the weekend.
The Reject option to the text written by the Constitutional Convention was imposed with 61%, over 38% of those who voted Approve.
