Nicaragua lifts travel restrictions on Covid-19

Nicaragua’s Ministry of Health has removed the need for incoming travelers to present Covid-19 vaccination certificates and negative PCR tests.

The decision was made in light of the World Health Organization’s declaration that Covid-19 no longer presents a global emergency.

The move also aims to reinforce the country’s epidemiological control measures.

The resolution was implemented immediately upon its announcement by Health Minister Martha Verónica Reyes.

In June 2022, Nicaragua had already lifted the requirement for a negative Covid-19 test taken within the previous 72 hours for entry into the country.

The only previously retained restriction was a complete vaccination schedule for those aged three and above.

However, this latest resolution has abolished all Covid-19 related entry prerequisites.

Travelers, however, are still required to present a yellow fever vaccination card, particularly when traveling from endemic regions.

The vaccine must have been administered no less than ten days prior to entry.

Despite the eased restrictions, temperature checks at all entry points will continue for early risk detection.

As of the past week, Nicaragua reported 245 deaths and over 20,000 confirmed Covid-19 cases since March 2020.
