Nicaragua’s regime has blocked the Spanish-language service of “CNN” from all cable channels in the Central American country.
The Atlanta-based U.S. television network announced it on Thursday, September 22. “CNN en Español” was the only remaining channel available to Nicaraguans and reported critically of President Daniel Ortega.
In one of its last broadcasts, the station interviewed a former Nicaraguan justice official living in exile in the United States.

“Today, the government of Nicaragua cut off our television signal, depriving Nicaraguans of the news and information from our channel, which they have trusted for more than twenty-five years,” the channel stated.
“CNN” added that its Spanish-language website continues to operate.
Censorship in Nicaragua has reached a critical point. Despot Ortega shifts gears, and independent media no longer operate, as in Cuba.
In recent weeks, several religious and community radio stations have been closed, and more than 200 journalists have gone into exile since 2018, reporting on their homeland from Costa Rica, the United States, and Europe.
