Denouncing the “high degree of nepotism” of the leftist government of Honduras

The Honduran NGO Anticorruption National Council (CNA) denounced this week the “high degree of nepotism” existing in the Executive headed by the leftist president of the country, Xiomara Castro.

According to the organization, the presence of the president’s sons, brothers, and nephews has been detected holding positions in the Government of the Central American country.

The report prepared by the CNA, entitled “Concentration of Power”, reports at least seven direct links between Castro and people who exercised some function in the public power of Honduras.

These individuals hold positions within the Presidential House, the National Congress, the National Commission of Housing and Human Settlements, and the Secretariat of National Defense, among other agencies.

“Currently, governmental power has been acquired by a single family. This aspect [Castro’s election] has allowed his family nucleus to occupy important positions,” reads an excerpt from the document.

Among those mentioned are Manuel Zelaya (Castro’s husband and former president of the country), Héctor Manuel Zelaya (son), José Manuel Zelaya Castro (son), Xiomara Hortensia Zelaya (daughter), Carlos Zelaya (brother-in-law of the president), María Alejandra Zelaya (niece-in-law), José Manuel Zelaya Rosales (nephew-in-law), Harold Efraín Burgos (nephew), Olga Doris Castro (sister).
