Bolivian president reinstates minister and denounces obstacles to government

Despite his previous censure by the Legislative Assembly, Bolivian President Luis Arce has reinstated Eduardo del Castillo as Minister of Government.

President Arce denounced efforts by certain factions within the ruling party to hinder the administration of the Executive.

President Arce emphasized that the decision to reinstate Del Castillo respects the Constitution aligns with the popular mandate, and counters those who aim to impede the government’s progress.

He also reminded critics of the 2019 coup that ousted former President Evo Morales.

Del Castillo had been removed from office by presidential decree following the censure passed in the Legislative Assembly, with votes from legislators associated with Morales and the opposition parties Creemos and Comunidad Ciudadana (CC).

In his address, President Arce expressed concern about fellow assembly members within his own political party who may intend to obstruct his administration.

He highlighted the negative impact of such actions on the Bolivian people and their aspirations for progress.

In his speech, Del Castillo directly accused Evo Morales-aligned legislators of betraying the revolution and supporting its adversaries.

He denounced their collaboration with right-wing groups and warned of potential constitutional ruptures resulting from their attempts to undermine President Arce’s administration.

He also emphasized that the revolution is larger than any individual and urged the need to prioritize the interests of the people above personal political ambitions.

The reinstatement of Del Castillo reflects President Arce’s determination to navigate challenges and uphold the principles of the government’s agenda for the benefit of the Bolivian people.
