Bolivia to end COVID-19 health emergency on July 31

Bolivia will lift the health emergency related to COVID-19 on July 31, as reported by local media.

However, health authorities are urging people to remain vigilant and maintain biosecurity measures to prevent a resurgence of the pandemic.

Minister of Health, María Renée Castro, stated during a press conference that this decision was made based on the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Although the health emergency will be lifted, an epidemiological alert with specific recommendations will be issued starting August 1.

Castro mentioned that Bolivians will no longer be required to wear masks in most public and private spaces, except for hospitals and health centers where their use will remain mandatory.

The current biosecurity protocols implemented in schools and educational institutions will be maintained and adapted to address other respiratory infections, based on the recommendations of the National Strategic Council.

“These are important measures and lessons learned that the government is implementing to ensure preventive mechanisms,” emphasized Castro.

The World Health Organization declared an end to the global health emergency related to COVID-19 on May 5.

Since March 2020, Bolivia has experienced six waves of the virus, resulting in over 1.2 million cases and 22,390 deaths.
