Violent protests in Argentina’s Jujuy province result in numerous injuries

Violent disturbances during demonstrations in Argentina’s Jujuy province have left approximately 96 people injured, as confirmed by regional authorities.

These incidents occurred in the provincial capital, San Salvador de Jujuy, as protestors opposed a controversial constitutional reform.

A statement from the provincial government website conveyed that healthcare teams from various units, alongside public emergency services, attended to the injuries.

Out of the total injured, 66 were provincial police officers who sustained a range of injuries from cuts and eye trauma to a fractured nasal septum.

The protest was triggered by the provincial legislature’s approval and implementation of a partial revision to the provincial constitution.

Critics argue that this reform compromises the right to public dissent.

The media outlets TN and C5N reported that security personnel responded to protestors, who were reportedly hurling stones, with rubber bullets and tear gas.
