Brazil’s President Flies to Cuba’s Global South Summit

Brazil’s President arrived in Havana today to attend the G77+China summit scheduled for tomorrow.

This event gathers leaders from many developing nations. They aim to boost international cooperation.

In Cuba, the President will talk with Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel. They will discuss trade limits against Cuba, mostly by the U.S.

They’ll also talk about partnerships in health and green energy.

Before leaving Brazil, the President posted a photo with the acting head of state. He said the trip marks Brazil’s return to global talks.

He also said it opens up new paths for trade and investment.

This year’s summit focuses on digital growth, science, and tech. The main theme is the role of innovation in solving current challenges.

Key topics include:

  • Money and finance
  • Sharing and moving tech
  • Ending hunger and poverty
  • Changing global money rules

Experts say quick tech growth in rich countries can make gaps bigger. So, this year’s talks will center on making all member nations stronger.

They will also look at better ways for south-south cooperation and global talks.

The summit also wants to change how global money rules work. This gives member nations a stronger voice.

A final statement will come out tomorrow. Delegates agreed on it earlier this week. They also decided to mark September 16 as Science and Tech Day.

Ministers in this field will meet every three years.

G77 Group

The G77 group began in 1964 with 77 members. Now it has 134 but keeps its first name for its history. Uganda will lead the group next.

After Cuba, the President will go to New York, USA. He will speak at the United Nations on Tuesday. He will then return to Brazil on September 22.
