SpaceX selects Brazilian company WEG as supplier for electric motors

SpaceX, a prominent aerospace company, has selected WEG, a leading global electric motor manufacturer based in Brazil’s Santa Catarina state, to provide engines for their operations.

This collaboration is part of SpaceX’s strategy to develop their own air separation unit, a method to produce oxygen used as rocket fuel, and decrease reliance on third-party suppliers.

Atlas Copco, a major supplier of air compressors, is also part of this initiative, offering the main compressor package for the air separation units.

WEG will provide the engines to operate these units.

In the year 2022, SpaceX achieved over 70 launches with their Falcon rockets, setting a record for the number of space missions by a private company.

SpaceX’s backers include organizations such as Google, NASA, and the US Air Force.
