Samba school in Brazil displays reference to communism

During a Carnival parade in Florianópolis (Santa Catarina), the Protegidos da Princesa samba school referenced communism by paying homage to the left-wing extremist Luís Carlos Prestes.

On Sunday (19), the dancers wore red, with the hammer and sickle symbol on their chests, in the wing baptized “Prestes Column”.

The images generated outrage on social networks.

Internet users reminded us that communism had killed 110 million people.

During the performance, the samba school sang a song against censorship without mentioning that it exists in totalitarian regimes of the extreme left.

In addition to the samba school with a theme about communism, the Landless Workers Movement (MST) participated in the Carnival.

The gathering paraded with the Camisa Verde e Branco Samba School in the Access Group (equivalent to the second division of the São Paulo Carnival).

With the theme “The Invisibles”, which highlights the fight for social rights, the Verde e Branco is trying to return to the elite group.

Another samba school that generated polemic was Rosas de Ouro.

This is because the parade theme about blacks had a white drum queen.

On one of the floats, journalist Manoel Soares from TV Globo played Zumbi dos Palmares.

Ana Beatriz Godói, the drum queen of Rosas de Ouro, dressed up as Dandara Palmares – Zumbi’s wife.

But that’s not all.

Angelina Basílio, president of Rosas de Ouro, also participated in the party.

She paraded with typically African braids in her hair.
