Bolsonaro government leaves a blessed legacy, but spending PEC will harm the poorest, says Sachsida

The Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, gave an exclusive interview to the program “Os Pingos nos Is” this Wednesday, 21st, and took the opportunity to list the improvements made by the current government in the sector.

According to the head of the portfolio, the third government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) — elected in the presidential elections that took place in October — will receive a “blessed inheritance” from Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“Brazil has permanently reduced 13 taxes and maintained free prices. Brazilian inflation will be, for the first time, lower than in the United States, Germany, England. And Brazilian growth will be greater than that of the United States, Germany and China,” he pointed out.

In Sachsida’s words, there is clear progress in energy policies, as the world faces a crisis related to the issue, while Brazil lowers the prices charged for fuel and energy consumed by the population.

“Our economic team values fiscal consolidation. We are delivering, for the first time since redemocratization, a country that spends less in relation to GDP than four years ago. Public accounts are in order. Autonomy from the Central Bank, railroad law, new cabotage law, new laws that bring security to private investment… These are legacies that the government is leaving,” he pointed out.

When commenting on the approval in the second round of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution ‘ceiling-breaker‘ in the Chamber of Deputies, which aims to increase public spending outside the spending ceiling by R$145 billion, Sachsida warned that, with irresponsible fiscal practices, “the risk of the country increases, the interest rate increases, inflation increases and the exchange rate depreciates,” causing a greater impact on the poorest population — since the government, in theory, will have problems paying its debt and the less favored will receive a benefit with less purchasing power.

“You have to spend more to roll over the debt and the poor get less as a result of inflation. This spending PEC only looks at one side, it only increases spending,” he concluded.
