Fitch upgrades credit ratings of 12 Brazilian banks

Fitch Ratings has increased the credit ratings of 12 financial institutions in Brazil, including both public and private banks.

This decision follows a rise in Brazil’s sovereign rating and the agency’s evaluation of the operational environment for Brazilian banks.

Among the banks affected are Itau Unibanco Holding S.A., Banco Bradesco S.A., Banco do Brasil S.A., and others, with upgrades mostly from ‘BB’ to ‘BB+’.

The adjustments in credit ratings are tied to potential changes in Brazil’s sovereign ratings, and the institutions whose ratings are linked to the sovereign rating of Brazil were included in this action.

This credit rating action reflects Fitch’s assessment of the banks’ long-term issuer default ratings and foreign currency ratings (IDRs), which influence their overall creditworthiness.

It signals a positive assessment of the banking environment in Brazil and potentially impacts the banks’ ability to attract investment.
