Fentanyl: the drug that kills most in the US is seized for the first time in Brazil

Fentanyl, the drug that kills most in the United States, was found with drug dealers for the first time in Brazil.

The seizure was made by the Civil Police of Espírito Santo in a house 30 kilometers away from Vitória, the state capital.

According to the investigators, the owner of the drug is not a dealer who dominates sales points in the outskirts of the cities but a supplier of the dealer.

The police believe that the fentanyl was produced in Minas Gerais and would be officially delivered to a hospital in Espírito Santo.

Now, investigators want to know if the fentanyl was diverted during transportation or if it arrived at the hospital and was sold to the traffickers.

The seizure caught the attention of the world’s largest drug enforcement agency, the US DEA.

Two American agents went to the state to assist in the investigations.

FENTANYL

Fentanyl is an opioid used as an anesthetic in hospitals but also causes hallucinations.

The drug is 50 times more addictive than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.

Police believe drug dealers may use fentanyl to baptize other drugs, such as cocaine and synthetic pills.

This increases users’ addiction, increasing consumption and generating profit for criminal organizations.

In the United States, fentanyl has caused the death of 75,000 people in one year, according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

In 2022, Americans seized 57 million counterfeit fentanyl pills and 6.5 tonnes of powder.

According to the DEA, counterfeit drugs are produced and supplied by cartels established in Mexico.
