Brazil: security forces arrested 174 suspects for attacks in Rio Grande do Norte

The security forces of Rio Grande do Norte arrested 174 people suspected of participating in the attacks in the state.

The balance was released on Thursday (23) by the Secretariat of Public Safety and Social Defense.

During the operations, 42 firearms were also seized; 6 firearm replicas; 139 explosive devices; 32 gallons of fuel; 14 motorcycles; 2 cars; money; drugs, and ammunition.

According to the data released by the secretariat, criminal attacks in the state, both completed and attempted, decreased by 98%. On Wednesday (22), two attacks were registered.

On Tuesday (14), there were 104 attacks; on Wednesday (15): 68; on Thursday (16): 57; on Friday (17): 29; on Saturday (18): 17; on Sunday (19): 7; on Monday (20): 10; and on Tuesday (21): 8.

The National Mechanism for the Prevention and Combat of Torture (MNPCT), linked to the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship, released on Wednesday (22) the final report on the situation of the prison system in Rio Grande do Norte.

“The document brings 138 recommendations to the competent authorities, from different powers and levels of the Republic, and reveals the existence of various forms of mistreatment and physical and psychological torture, besides pointing out vulnerabilities that point to rights violations of people deprived of liberty,” said the folder in a statement.

In releasing the report, the collegiate condemned the recent attacks promoted by criminals throughout the state.

“The MNPCT registers its repudiation of all manifestations and actions related to the practice of violence and deaths. We express our solidarity and regret to the entire population of the state of Norte Grande do Sul that has been experiencing a wave of violence that has caused fatal victims,” says the note.
