Brazil records 14% increase in fruit export revenue in the first half of 2023

In the first half of 2023, Brazil reported a 14% increase in fruit export revenue, amounting to around US$450 million, compared to the same period in the previous year.

The country exported 446,000 tons of fruit to 111 different destinations, including countries and autonomous regions.

The majority of exports went to Europe, with the Netherlands topping the list, purchasing 171,000 tons and generating US$160 million in revenue.

The United Kingdom and Spain followed, contributing to Europe’s receipt of almost 75% of Brazil’s fruit export revenue during this period.

However, Brazil’s fruit exports were globally distributed, reaching all inhabited continents.

For example, Africa received 1,000 tons of fruit worth US$1 million. Liberia was Africa’s primary customer, buying 240 tons for US$400,000, mostly comprising apples.

Among Brazilian states, São Paulo was the largest contributor to the fruit export market, generating nearly US$90 million, which is about 20% of the country’s total revenue from this sector.

The best-selling fruits in the export market were limes and lemons, generating US$84 million in sales.
