Bill submitted to grant amnesty to former president Bolsonaro

Congressman Ubiratan Sanderson (PL-RS) has submitted a bill seeking amnesty for former president Jair Bolsonaro, which has received support from 65 congressmen, including 12 from parties affiliated with Lula’s government.

The initiative comes after Bolsonaro’s conviction by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) for electoral offenses. The bill aims to pardon all individuals convicted of such offenses since 2016.

Alongside opposition party members, congressmen from parties holding key ministries in the government, such as MDB, PSD, and União Brasil, have signed the bill.

This includes ministers like Renan Filho, Simone Tebet, and Jader Filho from MDB, as well as Carlos Favaro, André de Paula, and Alexandre Silveira from PSD.

The opposition consists mostly of members from PL, the party of former president Bolsonaro.

Other opposition parties, such as Progressives, Republicans, Podemos, and Patriot, also have representatives supporting the bill.

It remains to be seen how this bill will progress and its implications for Bolsonaro’s legal situation.
