Electoral Court sentences former mayor of Rio de Janeiro to eight years of ineligibility

The electoral judge Márcia Santos Capanema de Souza, from the 23rd Electoral Zone of Rio de Janeiro, determined on Thursday (13) the ineligibility for eight years of Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) for abuse of economic power in the 2020 election, when he ran for reelection as mayor of Rio de Janeiro.

Crivella is currently a federal congressman.

The defense will appeal the first instance decision and point out that the sentence has no immediate effect, O Globo reported.
