Strengthened Security Pact Between Nicaragua and Mexico

The Nicaraguan Army and Mexico’s National Defense and Navy Departments have solidified their partnership.

This is through a Memorandum of Understanding for sharing experiences, training, and cooperation in security and defense.

This step occurred during a gathering of the armed forces general staff from both countries in Managua.

The meeting was led by General Julio César Avilés of the Nicaraguan Army from February 4th to the 9th.

The essence of this agreement is to initiate cooperative mechanisms to bolster capabilities in facing mutual threats and risks, safeguarding both nations’ security and defense.

The discussions covered mutual interests like Human Resources, Intelligence, Operations, and Training.

They also included topics such as Logistics, Education, Health, and Military Doctrine, alongside Cybersecurity and airspace protection.

Coordinated activities planned from 2024 to 2026 emphasize increasing information exchange to combat common transnational threats.

The Nicaraguan delegation was headed by Brigadier General Leonel José Gutiérrez López, leading the Military Intelligence and Counterintelligence Directorate.

General Alberto Flores Florián, Deputy Chief of Military Doctrine, and Vice Admiral Daniel Escobedo from the Navy Secretariat represented the Mexican Armed Forces.

This initiative highlights Nicaragua and Mexico’s continuous efforts to enhance regional security and defense through collaborative knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships.

The partnership addresses immediate security challenges and lays the groundwork for long-term regional stability.

It demonstrates a commitment to collective security benefiting both countries and the wider region.
