Olympics 2024: See Brazil’s Results on the First Day of Competition
This Saturday, July 27, marked the Olympic debut for the first Brazilian athletes at the Paris Olympic Games.
In the morning, Brazil’s premiere in tennis and skateboarding was postponed due to rain, disrupting the competitors’ schedule.
However, on just the first day of competition, the Brazilian team participated in over 10 different sports.
Here are the results for Brazilian athletes on the first day of the Olympic Games:
Rowing
Lucas Verthein and Beatriz Tavares secured third place, earning a direct spot in the quarterfinals.
Equestrian (Mixed) – Dressage
Marcio Jorge, Carlos Parro, and Rafael Losano took 12th place on the first day of team competitions in Eventing.
The top spots were claimed by the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, respectively.
Judo
Michel Augusto and Natasha Ferreira were eliminated from the medal contention, both losing to Japanese judokas in the judo eighth-finals.
Shooting (Men)
Philipe Chateaubrian from Rio competed in the 10-meter pistol qualifying round but did not advance, finishing 31st out of 33 athletes.
Swimming
In the 400 meters swim, Guilherme “Cachorrão” Costa finished in fifth place, ending his medal hopes but setting a new South American record with a time of 3:42.
In the women’s category, Mafê Costa finished in 7th place and did not earn a medal, with a time of 4:03.
Fencing
Nathalie Moellhausen, one of Brazil’s medal hopefuls, fell ill due to a tumor and had to withdraw from the Olympics. She is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, July 31.
Volleyball
The men’s volleyball team did not bring good news either, as they lost their opener to Italy. After dropping the first two sets, the team coached by Bernardinho lost 3-1.
The Brazilian men’s volleyball team is gearing up for a pivotal match on Wednesday, July 31, when they will take on the formidable Polish team.
This encounter is particularly charged as Poland was responsible for ousting Brazil in the quarterfinals of the last Nations League held in late June.
The upcoming match offers Brazil a chance for redemption and to showcase their strategic improvements.
Following this intense matchup, Brazil will conclude their group stage play against Egypt on August 2.
Artistic Gymnastics
Arthur Nory made errors that ousted him from the competition, while Diogo Soares secured his spot in the final, keeping medal hopes alive for the country.
Canoe Slalom
Ana Sátila advanced to the semifinals with the 12th best time.
Men’s Basketball
Brazil faced host France and, despite a strong start, lost their first Olympic match 78 to 66.
Surfing
The surfing competition unfolded at Teahupoo, Tahiti, providing excellent waves for Gabriel Medina.
Medina clinched a direct spot in the round of 16 by posting a final score of 13.50, with a 7.17 on his first wave and a 6.33 on his second.
Meanwhile, João Chianca, who wore a helmet due to a severe accident at Pipeline, Hawaii, last December, also excelled.
Chianca secured first place and advanced directly to the round of 16.
Filipe Toledo moved to the repechage round.
