Guyana Bolsters Air Corps with Advanced Aircraft

The Guyana Defense Force (GDF) recently enhanced its Air Corps by adding two advanced Hindustan 228-201 LW aircraft, provided by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Transported via Boeing C-17 Globemaster III planes of the Indian Air Force, these aircraft were recently delivered to Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

This delivery signifies a significant upgrade for the Guyana Defense Force (GDF), showcasing enhanced capabilities and resources.

In addition, HAL’s specialists will assemble these aircraft in April, readying them for integration into Air Corps operations.

Guyana secured a $23.27 million deal with India’s Export-Import Bank following President Ali’s 2023 visit.

This strategic move not only strengthens Guyana’s defense infrastructure but also showcases the nation’s commitment to enhancing its military assets.

Hindustan 228-201 LW, derived from the Do 228 NG, features STOL capabilities and accommodates up to 19 passengers.

HAL’s role extends beyond manufacturing to include producing parts for assembly in Germany, indicating a global collaboration in aerospace technology.

Guyana’s interest in a maritime patrol variant of this aircraft underscores its broader strategy to secure and surveil its maritime boundaries effectively.
