Ecuador Extends Emergency State to Curb Rising Violence

Ecuador’s leader, Daniel Noboa, has renewed the emergency state for 30 more days to tackle the surge in violence and criminal acts.

The Presidency announced this through a decree, aiming to calm the severe unrest and conflicts within the country, including its prisons.

First set on January 8 for a two-month period after violence spiked due to criminal gangs, this renewal reaffirms the government’s dedication to peace and order.

The decree states the emergency’s goal is public safety and peaceful living. Following police advice, the government will keep fighting violence.
