Dominican Republic builds new military facilities on the border with Haiti
The Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic began the construction of a barracks complex at the Beller Fortress, located in the province of Dajabón, in the northwest of the country, to improve the conditions of military personnel serving in this border area with Haiti.
The ceremony was headed by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General (Army) Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, and the General Commander of the Army, Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, accompanied by the Commander of the 4th Army Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General German Alejandro Rosario Pérez, among other high-ranking civilian and military authorities.
THE WORKS
The Beller Fortress is the headquarters of the 10th Infantry Battalion, organic of the 4th Infantry Brigade.

The works to be started include the construction of a barracks complex with a capacity to house some 400 military personnel, with a kitchen, dormitories, multipurpose room, bathrooms, and recreation areas.
This process, according to official information, is being carried out in compliance with the objectives established in the Institutional Strategic Plan (PEI-ERD. 2021-2024), “especially in the first axis that seeks the institutional strengthening of national defense, in this case, to enhance the Army’s capabilities”.
Moreover, it is framed within the announcements made recently by President Luis Abinader on the acquisition of 4×4 URO Vamtac ST5 armored vehicles, helicopters, and reconnaissance aircraft, as well as the creation of a new air command and the construction of military infrastructure, among other measures, to guarantee security on the border with Haiti, as reported by Infodefensa.com.
THE 4TH BRIGADE
The 4th Infantry Brigade of the Dominican Army has its headquarters established in the city of Santa Cruz de Mao, capital of the province of Valverde, also located in the northwest region of this Antillean island nation.
This brigade groups in its organization the following units: a Headquarters Company, the 9th, 10th, and 11th Infantry Battalions; a Scouting Platoon (motorized) and the Heavy Mortar Battery, equipped with Spanish-made 120 mm ECIA mortars.
