El Salvador’s president announces changes in key government positions

El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, has assigned Jerson Rogelio Molina, formerly Vice Minister, as the interim Finance Minister, according to the official government announcement on social media.

No further information regarding the cabinet reshuffling was provided.

Molina served in the Finance Ministry since 2001 in various roles and was appointed Vice Minister of Finance in October 2020.

His background also includes experience in the private sector, and academic credentials from Universidad “José Simeón Cañas” (UCA).

In the same reshuffling, former Finance Minister Alejandro Zelaya was positioned as country director of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), a crucial source of credit for El Salvador.

Evelyn Marisol Gracias was appointed as head of the Superintendency of the Financial System.

Since assuming the presidency on June 1, 2019, Bukele has seen changes in eight ministerial roles, with the Agriculture portfolio experiencing four changes.
