Latam Airlines resumes daily flights between Caracas and Lima, bolstering economic recovery

Latam Airlines, South America’s largest airline, has resumed daily commercial operations between Caracas, Venezuela, and Lima, Peru, for the first time in seven years.

The move was welcomed by Juan Teixeira, the president of Venezuela’s National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC), who praised the development as a crucial support to the country’s economy.

Peru’s ambassador to Venezuela, Librado Orozco, sees the resumption as a significant step in restoring regular people and goods movement, especially after the economic and health challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move is also considered a significant step toward strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

Trade between Peru and Venezuela declined drastically from US$1.413 billion in 2012 to US$47 million in 2020.

However, the situation started to improve in 2022 when the two countries resumed relations at the highest diplomatic level, ending the year with US$140 million in bilateral trade.

Orozco expressed optimism about the various business initiatives positively reconfiguring economic links between the two countries.
