Forbes ranks Brazil as the world’s best destination for ecotourism

The prominent business magazine, Forbes Advisor, named Brazil as the world’s premier destination for ecotourism in a ranking released in July.

In the evaluated criteria, Brazil scored an overall 94.9 points, leading the list of 50 countries.

Mexico and Australia trailed, securing the second and third positions respectively.

Brazil, with over 43,000 animal and plant species, was recognized for having the highest biodiversity among all evaluated destinations.

It is also home to the Central Amazon Conservation Complex, dedicated to the protection of endangered species.

The magazine’s index takes into account factors such as the number of animal and plant species in the country, biodiversity per 10 km², the percentage of protected lands, and the number of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Natural Heritage Sites.

The ranking also considers environmental performance, determined by aspects such as air quality and CO2 emissions (in tons per capita).

Tourism Minister, Celso Sabino, celebrated the result and acknowledged the federal government’s efforts towards the sector’s sustainable development.
