Brazil may have one of the best years in its tourism sector’s history

Brazil experienced a significant boost in tourism turnover, with a 15.9% increase in the first four months of 2023 compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The revenue generated from January to April reached R$73 billion (approximately US$15.183 billion), marking the highest value since the first four months of 2015.

The Ministry cited data from the Federation of Commerce, Goods, Services, and Tourism (Fecomercio), indicating that the tourism sector saw a 9.8% increase in revenue in April compared to the same month in 2022.

Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, highlighted that these figures suggest that Brazil may have one of the best years in its tourism sector’s history in terms of revenue.

Carneiro attributed this positive outlook to the return of travelers’ confidence and the dedication of all stakeholders in delivering memorable experiences.

The aviation sector emerged as the leading contributor to tourism-related revenue, followed by cultural, recreational, and sports activities, accommodation, and gastronomy.

Business travel also saw a notable rise, with a 29% year-on-year increase in the first four months of the year, accounting for 45% of the sector’s turnover.

The data reflects the resilience and attractiveness of Brazil as a tourism destination, signaling a promising future for the industry and demonstrating the commitment of stakeholders to provide exceptional experiences for visitors.
