RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to data from the Institute of Public Safety (ISP-RJ), the number of homicides between January and October is the lowest since 2007.
In 2007, there were 5,049 homicides, a rate of 32.6 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.
In 2019, up to October, there have been 3342 deaths, which means a reduction to 19.4 murders per 100,000 inhabitants.
The numbers, according to ISP data, had varied since 2012, when 3,361 deaths were recorded. That year, the rate was 20.7 deaths per 100,000 people.

2017: 4,446 deaths
