Russia and Latin America forge strategic inter-parliamentary alliance

Russia and Latin America are set to hold an international interparliamentary conference in Moscow from September 29 to October 2, which will have a “strategic” focus, according to Leonid Slutski, the head of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Parliament’s lower house.

The conference aims to strengthen ties between Russia and Latin American countries.

During a videoconference with Latin American parliamentarians and politicians, Slutski highlighted the significance of the region in Russian foreign policy.

He emphasized that Latin America is a priority in accordance with Russia’s new foreign policy doctrine, considering it one of the emerging centers of a multipolar world.

On his part, Ivan Melnikov, the first deputy speaker of the lower house of the Russian Parliament, emphasized the importance of concrete collaboration and cited successful cooperation in nuclear energy, health, agriculture, and space.

The Latin American participants acknowledged the common interests and concerns shared with Russia.

They expressed understanding of Russia’s concerns about NATO’s expansion and raised issues such as the Falkland Islands dispute and past US aggressions in Latin America.

They advocated for a stronger alliance with Russia, a country they believe has upheld its dignity and defended its wealth.

The conference aims to foster collaboration, address shared security concerns, and work towards combating neo-Nazism and fascism.

By coming together, Russia and Latin America aim to strengthen their partnership and promote peace and stability in the region.
