European Parliament brings nature restoration bill amid fierce controversy

The European Parliament plenary session voted against a veto on the law regarding the restoration of nature.

They had support from various political groups including socialists, liberals, greens, and left-wing factions, as well as some members of the “popular” MEPs who had previously expressed opposition.

The law received 336 votes in favor, 300 against, and 13 abstentions.

Following this initial vote, the MEPs will now proceed to vote on numerous amendments to finalize the text.

The legislation has faced strong opposition from farmers and livestock breeders in Europe who argue that it will impose unfavorable conditions and jeopardize their livelihoods.

Despite facing resistance and criticism, the law remains important to Brussels officials as a means to address the climate emergency.

The debate within the European Parliament has been heated, reflecting the division between supporters and opponents of the law.

The fate of the law now rests on the upcoming votes on the proposed amendments as the European Parliament continues to navigate the contentious issue of nature restoration.
