France, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia seek a solution to the political crisis in Venezuela

The Presidents of France, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina are slated to meet on Monday with negotiators from Venezuela’s government and opposition, with the objective of discovering a route out of the country’s political impasse.

This meeting, scheduled on the sidelines of a summit in Brussels, is aimed at identifying “sustainable solutions” for regional crises, including that of Venezuela, according to a statement from the press office of French President Emmanuel Macron.

Negotiations between Venezuela’s opposition and the government have been stagnant since November.

The French Presidency did not provide any information about other participants in the meeting.

European Union leaders are eager to reestablish relations with Latin America, as competition for influence against Russia and China intensifies.

The EU plans to invest more than EUR45 billion(US$50.6 billion) in Latin America and the Caribbean by 2027, announced the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, ahead of the two-day summit.
