There will be no closure of activities in Peru due to increase of Omicron cases, says Minister of Economy
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, ruled out a possible closure of activities or a setback in the economic reactivation process due to the increase of the omicron variant in Peru.
However, he indicated that measures of greater precaution are being evaluated to reduce contagions, such as the reduction of some gauges and the restrictions imposed for December 25 and 31, even though for some “it may be a little unpleasant”, stated Francke in a press conference held this Thursday.

He also assured that the economic growth for 2022, estimated at 3.4% by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), will depend on several factors. Among them, the busy international scenario due to the rise in freight rates, the temporary surge in inflation, and the uncertainty due to the new COVID-19 variants.

“We believe that by giving a good speech to public and private investment, and good management of economic policies, we will have a good growth”, he answered to the press.
When asked about the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, had with the former Minister of Economic, in which the current head of the MEF was not present, Francke answered that “I feel supported by the President.”
