Peru offers guarantees for international investments despite political and social crisis

Peru has guaranteed stability for international investments, despite the political and social crisis that the country has been experiencing since last December due to strong protests, assured this Saturday the President of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola.

“Democracy in Peru is guaranteed, and the strength of its institutions is also guaranteed, which allows us to ensure that the country has good conditions of stability for investments and work in conjunction with various institutions of global presence,” he said.

Otárola made such statements during a meeting with more than 80 diplomatic representatives accredited in this Andean nation and representatives of various international organizations, to whom he conveyed “the Government’s commitment with the democratic institutionality of the country”.

During the meeting, which took place at the Torre Tagle Palace of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in downtown Lima, the Prime Minister assured that more significant commercial ties are being promoted to encourage private investment.

On the other hand, Otárola, who Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi accompanied, pointed out that the current administration has been making efforts to reestablish order and social peace within the framework of respect for human rights and democratic institutions.

Since last December, Peru has been experiencing days of violent protests that have left 49 people dead, 41 of them demonstrators and one policeman, while another seven lost their lives due to events related to the blocking of roads.

The demonstrators’ main demands are the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, the closing of Congress, and the early general elections.
