Peru election: Keiko Fujimori, defeated at the polls, asks for annulment of 200,000 votes

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Peruvian presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori asked electoral authorities on Wednesday to annul 802 voting records – some 200,000 votes – under accusations of irregularities and “fraud at the polling station”.

The right-wing candidate, who is on her way to losing last Sunday’s vote by some 70,000 votes to leftist candidate Pedro Castillo, asked the National Board of Elections (JNE) to take this step while insisting on the review of 1,200 observed tally sheets (in reality, 859) when only 1% of the votes are still to be counted.

“These 802 tally sheets represent 200,000 votes, which when admitted should be removed from the national tally,” said Fujimori.
