Paraguay records export growth of 20.8% in the first half of 2023

In the first half of 2023, Paraguay’s total exports hit US$8.412 billion, marking a 20.8% rise from the same timeframe in 2022, as reported by the Central Bank of Paraguay.

Imports also grew, though more modestly at 1.3%, reaching US$7.259 billion.

Consequently, the trade surplus ended up at US$1.152 billion, in contrast to the previous year’s deficit.

Overall, foreign trade transactions of the country hit US$15.671 billion, a 10.9% increase from 2022’s first half.

Primary products like soybeans, rice, and corn were significant contributors, with their export values soaring by 85.7% to US$2.583 billion.

Electric energy exports also rose by 2.9%, accounting for US$768.6 million.

In terms of volume, primary products’ exports saw a 68.4% surge.

However, the export volume and value of bovine meat and offal dipped by 15.9% and 6.3% respectively compared to the previous year.
