Heat wave claims 21 lives in northern Mexico

According to official sources, at least 21 individuals have lost their lives due to the ongoing heat wave in northern Mexico.

The Secretary of Health for the state of Tamaulipas, Vicente Joel Hernández Navarro, revealed that nine reported deaths occurred under the Ministry of Health’s jurisdiction, while the remaining 12 were under the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Hernández Navarro further disclosed that ten individuals are hospitalized due to heat-related conditions.

Among them, four are in intensive care, four receive general floor care, and two are treated in the emergency area.

To address these concerning circumstances, the Institutional Evaluation Committee will assess the cases and deaths associated with the high temperatures, while intensifying efforts to ensure consistent care criteria and appropriate treatment for patients.

Increased training initiatives have been implemented across all hospitals, with sufficient resources allocated to address the heat wave contingency.

The official strongly advised the public to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, wear lightweight clothing, stay hydrated, and promptly seek medical evaluation if experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, or an elevated pulse rate.

While the heat wave primarily affects Mexico’s northern and southern regions, temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius have also been observed in Mexico City in recent weeks.
