A year after his electoral victory, Colombian President Gustavo Petro shared a poll on his Twitter account indicating a 47.7% approval rating of his administration.
Petro secured his position in the second round of elections held on June 19, 2022, succeeding Iván Duque as the head of the Colombian executive power.
The survey, conducted by the National Consultancy Center, shows that 47.7% of respondents approve of his administration, with 43.3% expressing disapproval and 9.1% being uncertain or choosing not to respond.
Expressing gratitude in a tweet, Petro mentioned the resilience of the populace against media bias, emphasizing solidarity, resistance, and the pursuit of social justice and peace.
Petro’s administration has been characterized by dialogues with active guerrilla groups such as the National Liberation Army (ELN).
The poll data also detailed regional variances, showing stronger disapproval in the central-eastern region and coffee belt areas, while approval rates in the Caribbean region soared to 63.6%.
In the capital, Bogotá, the president received 49.7% approval, compared to a 42.4% disapproval of his governmental work.
Petro assumed the presidency of Colombia on August 7, 2022, following his electoral victory on June 19.
