Agreement between Chile and the European Investment Bank to support energy transition

Chile formalized a partnership with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to propel the country’s transition to cleaner energy, as reported by Chile’s Ministry of Energy.

This partnership intends to enhance collaboration on various fronts, focusing on developing clean energy projects.

The EIB has shown interest in key programs that could significantly contribute to Chile’s energy transition.

The partnership’s objectives include improving thermal efficiency in rural areas, training programs on renewable energy and green hydrogen, and developing projects centered around energy storage, green hydrogen, electromobility, and energy efficiency.

These initiatives will be coordinated with existing Chilean programs to energize small and medium-sized businesses and improve schools.

These efforts aim to speed up the decarbonization process and energy transition in Chile.

In 2022, the country reported that solar and wind energy accounted for 32 percent of the total energy produced, outpacing generation from thermal sources.
