Electoral court confirms the parties UNE and Semilla in the second round of elections in Guatemala

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Guatemala (TSE) has officially announced the results of the general elections held on June 25.

The candidates Sandra Torres from the National Union of Hope (UNE) party and Bernardo Arévalo from the Seed Movement have been confirmed as the participants in the presidential runoff.

The TSE’s declaration was delayed due to a revision of electoral records ordered by the Constitutional Court on July 1.

TSE President Irma Palencia stated that all requirements set by the Constitutional Court were fulfilled, including the consolidation of data from all electoral boards and the acceptance of 341 nullified votes.

The second round of elections is scheduled for August 20, and Palencia emphasized the importance of citizens exercising their right to vote.

Simultaneously, Rafael Curruchiche, the head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (FECI), announced a court order to suspend the Movimiento Semilla party.

However, the TSE has not yet issued a statement regarding this order or its implications on the already officialized second round of elections.
