The South American leader arrived in the US after participating in the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, between Friday and Saturday.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the two leaders “will discuss how to address global challenges and discuss mutual interests among climate change, space, and technology”.

In addition to celebrating 200 years of bilateral relations between the US and Argentina, the two leaders will also discuss “economic cooperation, as well as common values, inclusion, democracy, and human rights”, the secretary added.

After this meeting, a joint statement will be given to the press before proceeding with the formal greetings to the Argentinean delegation.

The Argentine President in New York is scheduled to attend a dinner at the Council of the Americas with some 30 investors on March 27 before leaving for Washington on March 28.

The meeting between the President of Argentina and his US counterpart was scheduled for July but was postponed because Biden contracted Covid-19.

The last time an Argentine head of state visited the White House was in July 2003, when then-president Néstor Kirchner (2003-2007) was received by his US counterpart, George Bush (2001-2009).
