Navantia’s Submarine S-81 conducts successful dive in Colombia’s Bay of Cartagena

The submarine S-81 Isaac Peral has achieved a significant milestone by successfully conducting its first periscopic level navigation during dynamic dives.

Led by Navantia, the program has released impressive images of the submarine emerging from the waters of the Bay of Cartagena after its inaugural submerged navigation.

Safety measures were in place during the operation, with the participation of other vessels like Neptuno and Clara Campoamor, the latter belonging to Salvamento Marítimo.

Margarita Robles, the Minister of Defense, visited the Navantia shipyard in Cartagena and confirmed that if all goes according to plan, the Isaac Peral will be delivered to the Navy in November of this year.

The submarine will undergo further immersion navigations at various depths in the coming weeks to thoroughly test its equipment and systems, culminating in a dive to maximum depth.

Construction progress on the other three submarines in the S-80 series, namely Narciso Monturiol S-82, Cosme García S-83, and Mateo García de los Reyes S-84, is also on track.

Minister Robles expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, stating that the goal is to have the complete group of submarines in service by the end of 2028.
