World Bank points out that Brazil had better poverty management during the pandemic in Latin America

Data from a report released by the World Bank indicate that most countries in Latin America and the Caribbean had a decade-long setback in the fight against poverty during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Without Brazil, the rate of people in Latin America living on less than US$6.85 a day in 2019 was 29.7%, rising to 34.4% in 2020, going to 31.4% in 2021, and remaining at 31% in 2022.

However, the percentages decrease when Brazil is inserted into the calculations.

In 2019, the index would be 28.4%; in 2020, 28.6%; in 2021, 31%; and in 2022, 28.8%.

The main difference was registered in the first year of the pandemic, 5.8%, when adding Brazil to the calculation.

According to the World Bank report, Brazil had better management in preventing people from reaching the poverty line and also managed to remove people from that situation.
